Common Core Math Training

KEA Professional Development Opportunity

Common Core State Standards Math Training

Trying to grab hold of the new math standards?

Want to learn how to effectively implement them?

Implementing new math standards requires a shift in planning and instruction. During this training, participants will deeply explore the three math shifts. Participants will be able to identify areas of focus and understand how coherence supports focus. Participants will understand how the aspects of rigor, conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency, and application, are implemented with balance. When planning for math instruction, teachers can apply the math shifts and Standards for Mathematical Practice, to focus their units and lesson plans. Participants in this training will learn about the Standards for Mathematical Practice, and have a chance to experience the Practices within math lessons. Participants will apply their knowledge of the three math shifts, and the Standards for Mathematical Practice, to begin planning an upcoming math unit.

This training will meet the new PD requirement for STEM. Please bring a device to access the materials electronically and fully participate in this course. This is a two part course, for a total of 12 clock hours. Participants should expect to attend both sessions.
