Culturally Responsive Classroom Strategies
Series of Four (4) Trainings
every Tuesday evening February 5th - March 5th
(no class during mid-winter break)
This KEA sponsored series of trainings is intended to help educators reflect on their practice as culturally responsive professionals to increase effectiveness across differences among their students and families. It is intended for elementary and secondary classroom teachers interested in creating a new culture of equity and cultural responsiveness in their school community. Instructors are Shawna Moore and Manasi Cedergreen.
The class dates are:
Classroom Communities - February 5th, 2019
Classroom Management - February 12th, 2019
Classroom Interactions - February 26th, 2019
Classroom Behavior Interventions - March 5th, 2019
Where: KEA Office 10427 SE 244th St, Kent 98030
Time: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm (dinner from 4:30 - 5:00 pm)
Each class offers three (3) clock hours for a total of 12 clock hours (if all 4 are taken). Classes qualify for TPEP clock hours. Clock hours, dinner and materials are provided FREE to KEA members.
The series of classes are meant to be taken as a whole. If you took CRS Classroom Communities in January 2017, and/or CRS Classroom Management in February of 2017, or the combined Classroom Communities/Management class (at Kentridge HS) in the May of 2017, you would only need to take Classroom Interactions & Behavior Interventions to complete the series.

Culturally Responsive Strategies - Classroom Communities
This training helps educators become more culturally responsive and improve their classroom engagement with students from diverse backgrounds, social groups and cultures through meaningful, caring adult relationships.
Culturally Responsive Strategies - Classroom Management
This training helps educators develop culturally responsive classroom management practices to ensure that students experience a positive, consistent, safe and equitable classroom. Participants learn strategies to appreciate and appropriately integrate their students' culture and family backgrounds into the into the classroom culture.
Culturally Responsive Strategies - Classroom Interactions
This training helps educators delve deeply into culturally responsive classroom management practices to ensure that students experience a positive, consistent, safe and equitable classroom. Participants will develop implementation strategies to create a classroom culture that appropriately integrates their students' culture and family backgrounds.
Culturally Responsive Strategies - Classroom Behavior Interventions
This training helps educators integrate culturally responsive behavior interventions practices into their classroom. Participants build on concepts from earlier courses in the Culturally Responsive Strategies series to learn to implement behavior intervention strategies that respect all students.
