KEA Professional Development Opportunity: Implicit Bias and Microaggressions - Race and Ethnicity

This year, KEA is offering Implicit Bias trainings throughout the 2020-2021 school year again, but like everything else, we have gone remote. These modules include: The Science of Implicit Bias, Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Intersectionality, LGBTQ, and Disability. All of these modules will be offered for free clock hours to members and have the potential to have an immediate impact on how we support our students and colleagues.

This  class for educators explores the science of implicit bias based upon race and ethnicity through an analysis of "microaggressions" and "micro-insults." Participants will develop an understanding of (1) how our beliefs, values, and experiences inform implicit biases related to race, ethnicity, and start the conversation about intersectionality and (2) how our implicit biases and behaviors impact others (students, colleagues, families, etc.). Because student success is dependent on a sense of belonging, participants work on strategies to make the classroom and school system more inclusive. Participants will learn how to help provide students with a safe environment to learn with the goal of increasing student engagement and academic success.

When:  Thursday, October 8, 2020, :30 - 7:30 pm
