Dec 4, 2018 4:30pm - 7:30pm
Back To Events

This summer, WEA brought in WEA members and staff from around the staff to be trainers of an Implicit Bias curriculum developed by the Diamond Law training staff. KEA would like to now start offering this course starting with the introductory session exploring the science behind implicit bias and how everyone carries their own bias into the world every day. This course builds on years of study and tests conducted by Harvard University's "Project Implicit." This first session will also start exploring how implicit bias and microaggressions have an impact on those around us regardless of our intent. Follow up topics will be more specifically focused on issues of race, ability, gender, and LGBTQ status.

This research-based course for educators explores issues of implicit bias based upon race, ethnicity and LGBTQ status through an analysis of "microaggressions" and "micro-insults."

Course Objectives:

  • Explore issues of implicit bias and microaggressions
  • Develop an understanding of [1] how our beliefs, values, and experiences inform one's implicit biases and [2] how our implicit biases and behaviors impact others (students, colleagues, families, etc.)
  • Learn about additional implicit bias resources for educators
