Understanding Implicit Bias and Ourselves: Disablity and LGBTQ
This year, KEA will continue to provide the introductory session on Understanding Implicit Bias and Ourselves with a focus on Disability and LGBTQ. KEA will be offering Implicit Bias trainings throughout the 2019-20 school year at the KEA office including all the modules once again. These modules include: The Science of Implicit Bias, Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Intersectionality, LGBTQIA+, and Disability. All of these modules will be offered for free clock hours to members and have the potential to have an immediate impact on how we support our students and colleagues.
This course for educators explores the science of implicit bias based upon race and ethnicity through an analysis of "microaggressions" and "micro-insults."
Course Objectives:
- Explore issues of implicit bias and microaggressions
- Develop an understanding of [1] how our beliefs, values, and experiences inform one's implicit biases and [2] how our implicit biases and behaviors impact others (students, colleagues, families, etc.)
- Learn about additional implicit bias resources for educators
